Chiropractic is a mode of health care that takes a holistic approach to the management of pain, and helps the patient maintain a healthy lifestyle. This means that the chiropractic physician addresses the physical, mental and spiritual needs of the patient, treating the whole person as opposed to treating the ailment. Chiropractic works in conjunction with the patient to find and address the cause of their complaint rather than just treat the symptoms. Chiropractic treatment includes hands-on natural methods as well as patient education and lifestyle advice. Chiropractic is a drugless, non-surgical approach to health care that utilizes the best evidence-based medicine to provide specialty and wellness care to patients of any age. If needed, the chiropractic physician can co-manage patients with other medical providers to ensure the best care and course of treatment for the patient.
What can be helped by chiropractic
Chiropractic has two major roles in the health care system. The first is to be a neuromusculoskeletal specialist. This means we excel at treating ailments of the body such as strains, sprains, muscle spasm/tightness, neck and low back pain, disc and nerve conditions and headaches. Treatment for these conditions may last from a few days to several months depending on the severity of the problem.
Chiropractic’s second role is as a preventative or wellness care provider. Some patients choose to continue to receive chiropractic care even after they have recovered from their injury because they want to maintain the level of health they have obtained during treatment. There are also patients that find their body functions better if they are adjusted on a regular basis. This level of wellness care addresses the needs of other body systems including the digestive and respiratory systems. It also emphasizes the mental, dietary, nutritional and physical needs of the patient. Wellness care patients can choose to have a set frequency to their treatment or make appointments as needed.
